Historical Development:
In 1935, we established our first store in Orange, Virginia, followed by a second location in Madison, Virginia, in 1937. Both sites included a warehouse and mill. Gordonsville, Virginia, saw the addition of our third location two decades later.
In 1977, we relocated the Madison store to its current position on North Main Street, Madison, Virginia. A decade later, our Orange store moved to James Madison Highway, Orange, Virginia. However, the Gordonsville location ceased operations in 1997, leading us to lease the Louisa Feed Service in Louisa, Virginia, owned by the Marshall Family. By 2017, we officially acquired Louisa Feed Service, adding it as our third location.
In 2022, a merger with Front Royal Cooperative prompted a name change to EverGRO, expanding our reach with the acquisition of two farm stores in Front Royal and Upperville, Virginia.
Operational Partnerships:
In 1991, Orange Madison Cooperative initiated a management agreement with Southern States Cooperative, Richmond, Virginia, for services including accounting, IT, Human Resources, and Safety. However, this partnership dissolved in 2020, leading to the internalization of services.
In the same year, Orange Madison Cooperative joined GROWMARK, Inc. as a Member Cooperative, benefiting from crop inputs, fuels, propane, and various customer support and marketing services.
Expansion and Diversification:
In 1993, Orange Madison Cooperative ventured into propane operations, followed by the acquisition of Carlton Brook Petroleum, a refined fuels distributor, in 2006. This purchase included a facility in Charlottesville, Virginia, which now serves as our petroleum division’s base.
Further expansion occurred in 2013 with the purchase of UTZ & Shepherd Fuel Oil Business in Madison County, Virginia, enhancing our energy service department. Today, we provide energy services from our Orange location and supply petroleum from our Charlottesville facility.
