If you’re in Louisa or Spotsylvania County and value homegrown meat, you’ve likely heard of Century Farm Market, owned and operated by Nicole Coleman. Located in Louisa on Daniel Road, Century Farm Market is a local market supplying local beef, pork, chicken and seafood along with many other locally sourced items!
When beef supply plummeted due to plant closures and supply chain disruptions in 2020, Nicole and her husband, Will Coleman, realized just how high demand was for locally grown and processed beef. After years of planning and dedication, Century Farm Market was established in 2023. Beef products sold at Century Farm Market are sourced from the cattle that are raised on the Coleman’s family farm, Duckinghole Creek Farm.
Duckinghole Creek Farm has been home to Will’s family since its establishment in 1902. The farm has now seen 5 generations with Will Coleman inheriting it from his grandfather in 1992. After decades of farming, Will and his family knew exactly how to provide their community with prime, local beef. Overseeing the production of the cattle, grain, hay and straw on the farm, the Coleman’s are dedicated to raising the best homegrown beef, from start to finish.

Their herd is made up of Angus bulls that are bred to Simental Hereford, Charolais, and Angus cross cows. These calves are started on grass and are then weaned and finished with hay and grain. Their grain is composed of a mix of corn and barley, all of which is grown on the farm. Once the cattle reach their goal weight, they are taken to be processed at Finest Butcher in Bealeton, Virginia or 7 Hills in Lynchburg, Virginia.
After processing, the meat returns to Century Farm Market where it is sold to the public. Unlike store-bought beef, Century Farm Market beef does not contain any preservatives. Their most popular beef products include steak, ground beef, roast, skirt steak, and most recently added, brats!
When asked what she wishes more people knew about beef farming, Nicole quickly answered with, “The time and dedication that goes into raising quality meat and how important it is to stay in touch with your cattle.” The Coleman’s care for their farm 7 days a week, rain or shine.
As we celebrate National Beef Month, places like Century Farm Market remind us of the dedication, care, and craftsmanship that go into every cut of locally raised beef. By choosing to support farm-to-table operations, you’re not only enjoying high-quality, flavorful meat — you’re also investing in the families and traditions that sustain rural communities. Here’s to honoring hardworking producers like Nicole and Will Coleman, this month and all year long.
